Breeder says they are hens ~ are they? *Update* on page 4

I'm going to call him and ask him to work out a trade of some sort with me. I have tons of feed money into these two. They were hatched the last week of March.

Mo, my avatar was getting beat up by one of them this morning ~ and when I intercepted the second one posted came after me. That is when I realized I might not have hens.

Thanks everyone ~ I will be nice to him *I kinda of had a mad moment there* and will update later.

If someone told you those are both hens they either had NO clue or they were being totally dishonest... I can't believe they aren't crowing?!!!

Both have saddle feathers and are all rooster

Well, as chicks it wouldve been difficult to tell. But, if you questioned him again after a few months, he shouldve known better... Definitely have a nice chat, and get those hens you paid for!! It sounds like they aren't very nice roosters either... If he doesn't want them back, I suggest a nice chicken dinner of some sort, if you have the ability to take them to get processed (I know I couldn't do it, but a lot of people do, and

to them!!).

Just make sure you get those hens he sold you - and yep, definitely make sure they are to the point of laying!!

Good luck!

Not with sexlinks... That is why they are called and bred as sexlinks so you can determine the difference when they are born... If this seller breeds and sells sex links then they should know the difference... Sounds to me like someone was just trying to get rid of some roos and the OP looked like a good target. I would def ask for an exchange of POL girlys.

i agree with the poster above. those are DEFINITELY roos. (shiny hackle feathers, pointy saddle feathers, etc. etc.)

those are sex link males. a breeder would have definitely known as day olds what sex they were.

here 's the picture from BYC of the difference between roosters

study this picture and THEN go back to him and get some hens!

Thanks everyone ~ this breeder has been selling chickens for quite a while and assured me when he picked them out that you could tell by their color when one week old. I did email him pictures of them a few months later, and he said ... yep they are hens.

I just bought two more *red cochin bantam* and a *silkie mix* from him about 7 weeks ago.

They have been making some funny crowing sounds ~ but when I researched here, it said that some hens do imitate crowing.

Oh well, I have emailed him pics of their combs and feet *he wanted to see the spur growth* and will wait to see what he has to say.

I have been waiting ever so patiently for my first egg from them....

We'll see what happens, I don't want to start over again, but not sure if he is going to be willing to let go of some pullets already laying. He does have quite a few bantams down there, so I may have to swap with those and start with some big egg layers in the spring. *sigh*

Thanks again everyone ~ I should have posted this a lot sooner.
