Breeders in Maine

Hi,
We bought 3 bantam Amercauna pullets from Dana Manchester at Shady Hollow farm up near Belfast last May. Very sweet and docile group, and we love them. However, these particular girls only lay pink eggs. I let him know that for his breeding program. I believe that he had some other birds as well.

I have 2 white silkie hens, one buff orp hen and one black jersey giant hen. They are my mutt pack. They are all pure but I put them all together. I only have one white silke roo with the 4 hens. I will have some porcelains in a few weeks. I got them thinking maybe I will have some lavendar jersey giants in a year or so. I just put the porcelains in the incubator. Hopefully I will get a male and female out of 7 eggs. I don't really like buying through the mail but seems the best way for now. If you know of anyone selling in Maine let me know. I am always looking for something different.

Yes they did have some when they were born. I think they peck them off a little. I will try for some more pictures in a couple of months when they start laying. I cannot guarantee they are very good bcm's I can only tell you what I got and they were dark eggs. Listing said pure bcm's. I have no ideas other wise. If you decide not to get them that is ok too. I understand many want top of the line. I don't know if these are that. I will know better as time goes by...maybe. I am no chicken expert or breeder. Just bought some off ebay for the egg color.

Priscilla,

wow, I logged on here to check my thread of maine breeders and found this thread. there certainly are alot of breeders in maine and we have quite a few shows. first one I believe is in may (windsor fair grounds). there will be lots of birds for sale as well.
I myself, raise wyandottes (whites and blue laced reds) and show them and new this past fall, silkies. I also have a few misc birds wheaton marans and blue americanas in the bunch. I had some black coppers until I had a weasel attack. my bcm some had more copper but not much- the roosters seem to have the color there. and foot feathering, they are not feathered like some breeds. mine had just a touch on the outside toe. those lacking foot feathering are not french but the english standard.
if you want any contacts for chicks and birds (or shows) you are welcome to come join us at the central maine bird fanciers. we meet every month in washington on bill luce rd at the grange. next meeting in dec on sunday. pm me for more info.

Hey Hoppy,
Do you guys have a website? I would love some more info. Rather go with local breeders than hatcheries for any more stock I get. Do you sell any BRLW or Americauna chicks? Those are a couple of the breeds I am interested in getting. Those and Welsummers, Barnevelders(love to get some of these) and BCM (although PW_Quiltworks may help me there). Let me know what you can - where is the Maine Breeder Thread?
