Breeders that sell .... Is it ethical?

Kathy, could you post another pic. of your beauties. If I remember right they were very much sellable.

Those are some good looking birds! As a buyer, I would not mind buying from a breeding project as long as I knew that was what I was getting. It would only be unethical if you claimed that they were 100% show quality birds. With any animal, the offspring is never 100% show quality. Some are great for pets, some need to be culled, and some do end up being great for showing.

Goreous birds!!!!!! Why would you want to keep them ALL to yourself???? Share em!

Those are so much better pleasing to the eye than hatchery NHR and I am glad to see them! I can not remember the best ones posted but these are beauties!

I agree with Robert Bloshl about diversify your flock instead of keeping all of them yourself in case something happens. So spread those egg wealth around!

Thank you for your post. See, this is, in part, what I was thinking also!

My New Hampshires are not all siblings. I do have diversity. I am fortunate that the breeder I bought these from is so knowledgeable, and he set me up very well with this stock. That said, I still have no idea what the outcome will be with my matings. It will be quite some time before I can see what I can produce.

On the other hand, there is such a shortage of good quality New Hampshires, and I do feel mine are pretty good, should I still just keep them all to myself? Maybe I should. I think about what Bob Blosl has said many times. Not to keep all your stock in one place. Share them, and IF something should happen, you can go back to one of your buyers and get some back. I think about that, too.

At any rate, whether my birds are show winners or not, I think they should produce a good enough quality for others to use as a base to work with. That, and the fact that it is impossible for me to hatch every single egg produced here, are reasons I think for selling.

Grrrrr, the dilemma!

Please Lord, let all Kathy's hens lay three eggs a day each so she will run outta room faster and just have to sell some eggs to others.
Mainly ME!
