I have a cherry egger rooster, an accident among picking out a lot of baby girls. I know they are a crossbred breed, but can I breed the rooster even though hes crossbred? Will a cherry egger rooster and hen create another cherry egger?

Without looking up exactly what a cherry egger is (I will do that, though!) I have to say that most likely you will get some cherry egger out of your breeding project, and some that lay other colored eggs. And roosters that lay no eggs, of course. Off the top of my head, I would like to say you could get a 50/50 ratio of cherry eggers.... but hold that thought, because I need to know what makes a cherry egger before I go figuring that out!

Ok, I am back. So the short answer to your question is yes, you will make more cherry eggers by crossing your own stock!! All of them should be cherry eggers. Or at least, the vast majority depending on which stock yours come from.

2 hatchery sites I looked at say cherry egger is a dark colored Rhode island red, while the third hatchery site says they are a new hamp x Rhode island red cross. The last site did say they could be a red colored hybrid That's crossed to a non red breed and lay's brown (not cherry) eggs. Which hatchery did these come from, do you know??

Cherry eggers are just hatchery RIR.
I believe cackle started them. All they are are the darkest colored birds pulled from their RIRs then bred to hopefully produce more darker chicks which is geared towards the idea that "real" RIRs should be a deep red color.

I've read that breeding a crossbreed (cherry egger X cherry egger) wouldn't produce the same quality chicken. I wanted to experiment with breeding since I accidentally got a rooster. But I was curious if they would breed a true cherry egger, or if I would be creating mutts that no one would want.

It largely depends on which hatchery your cherry eggers were produced in. If they are RIR stock that is selected for darker color then yes, they will breed true. If they are a new hampshire x RIR then yes, they will breed true. If they are RIR crossed with a non red breed of chicken then no, they will not breed true. In that case you'd have some reds and some other colored chicks.

Try it and see!!!

So if they were to breed true (I'm working on finding out which hatchery they came from) would they still have the same benefit of being able to sex them as chicks?
