Ok, good! Can you capon a mature rooster? Cuz I can get lots of free ones to practice on first so I will do well with the one that matters.....dont know what I would do If something went wrong with that bird!

I assume you can. The jellybeans are a lot larger and might bleed more than young cockerels, I don't know for sure.

No it doesn't work that way. It's way more dangerous the older the bird gets. I'd not caponize anything over 1 1/2 lbs Research caponizing.

Yeah I think 'assume' was the wrong word. I wouldn't want to mess with a big bird anyway. Not to mention it really sucks to lose a mature rooster.

The 70 that I did were between 15 - 19 ozs

Is 3 months old too old? I can get lots of 3-4 month olds to practice on

Do a lot of research. Go to Graphic Pics on my day of learning to caponize. Page 109 has the new chinese tools and procedure. Lets' you know if you're interested. I have my tools just no cockerels the right size.

I have gone through that thread quite a few times, I am mentally capable, I just want practice on birds I am not so attached too, The one I need caponed is like my child

I am not near anyone that can do this. I have the tools and the pics on here. Practice is the only thing that's going to work for you. If you are going to cull these birds anyway, if might be a good learning curve.

Yea, we have a free rooster list, and there are several young (3-4 months) roosters that I can use for practice. I just have to make it count on My little guy He is the sweetest little bird but I live in town
