I prefer the plastic of the Incuview, it simply wipes clean. A couple clorox wipes and it's ready for another round. No soaking in bleach. Styrofoam can harbor bacteria.

That makes sense and it sure sounds nice

I would suggest a novice use a purchased design first.

I agree with @centrarchid . You don't save anything with an inexpensive incubator, especially if you wait 21 days and end up with no chicks. My first incubator was a mini advance from Brinsea. A bit more than I wanted to spend, But it works like a dream and has never disappointed me. I wanted larger hatches so I got a Farm Innovator 2250 with auto turner. It was ok for several hatches, but the last one malfunctioned during lockdown. the temp spiked to 111 and I lost 15 chicks that were moving around at lock down.

I'm glad that I did not sell the Brinsea when I got the Farm Innovator!

An incubator is an investment, no matter how big it is. I wouldn't go with a home made one unless you are very handy with electrical stuff. I tried to build one and failed... I am good with constructing things, but not with electrical. I once put up a kitchen ceiling fan w/light, and the wall switch operated the fan and not the light!

The dang thing was too heavy for me to take down and fix it, and my ex was useless at anything requiring toos! It stayed that way when we sold the house

Find someone getting out of the Parrot fancy. Sometims there are real nice incubators for not much money. I have 2 Brinsea Mini Advances. Just love them, esp. the auto humidity feature. You can hatch 7 eggs at a time. The same numbr which you can grow out to 3 months old in one of those 15 ft. octogon shaped , triple thick cardboard watermelon corrals. One year I had 6 of the corrals in my 3 bay garage and grew out 42 Light Sussex in them to 3 months old. They did just fine. Another nice thing about the 7 egg capacity is that with just that many in a hatch you can keep a sharp out on them and watch them develop.
