BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Day 18 of incubation and my candler broke. Oh well...all 22 eggs are in lockdown anyway. Now I get to lose time standing over the incubator while I watch eggs wiggle around. C'mon babies! I'm ready for you!

I hope that all goes well on your hatch! I know how you feel as that time gets closer. I have 6 in my incubator right now, also. I candled them last night, and all 6 have movement in them. They are due to hatch out for New Years.

I'm pretty much sure I'm going to set eggs before leaving town - my Brinsea is REALLY stable, and I have a chicken sitter coming a few times a day. I'm timing things so that I return just in time for the Day 10 candling. I think I'll save myself a lot of anxiety. (Either that or I'll make myself crazy!!!!)

Post photos!!! I can't wait to see what you get! If I didn't already have my hands full I'd beg you for some orange barred babies like Zazzle... Or maybe Pepper (wish I could make the road trip... and had the space...)

I LOVE YOUR BIRDS!!!! (ahem...)

Well, when you're ready for chicken math to get the better of you, give me a heads up. I'll set up a breeding pen and ship some fertile eggs to you. I love playing the role of the enabler.

@Turk Raphael was definitely right on naked necks being cold hardy. We've had many nights down around zero with some double digit below windchill and they are doing great even the cockerels with their big combs and wattles.
I really figured they'd be huddled up suffering trying to bury their necks in their feathers. They act like it's just another day, not cold at all.
:)

Weighing day here too! Our boys are slowly but surely starting to get the idea of this. Our turkeys INSISTED on supervising weighing today.

Here's Red, who is currently at 2lbs 13 Oz. Has some red leakage in the crest, but otherwise the content for our main breeding cock, so long as the single patch of red doesn't grow...

Here's boy #2, pretty consistent color, but a bit flighty and well.... 2lbs 5oz. Eek.

The other two may escape the dinner table *if* only for breed preservation, but if they truly exhibit a lot of faults, I'll be culling them.
