this thermostat ...does this replace a wafer in a cabinet incubator? we have two wafers in our new used cabinet incubator.
so do I need two of these ? Put one of the top, one at the bottom? how does it work ?I'm very interested !!
thanks for posting this !
Best ,

You would not need 2--if you are wanting to change-----only one for your incubating. the second in your cabinet should be set for your high temp---should the other fail. If you do not understand this---I will explain it a little better. Your cabinet would have to be modified so this thermometer does not turn off everything in your cabinet---fans, turner etc.

Yes,( oops...yes to the does this replace a wafer) although my Lower Water heater(in your case a wafer) is still hooked up, you plug in the power cord and place the temperature probe inside the unit. It takes over the power on and off for the heat source.

Explain how these with cabinets would use them----if you plug the cabinet into it----and when it gets to the set temp---the fans and turner, everything will also cut off.

They would have to modify the cabinets wiring if they wanted to use this type.

You are correct. The fan would need to be plugged into a steady power source. I have my fan on a separate plug. The styrofoam incubator has two lights that cycle off and on with the Water Heater Lower unit thermometer. The fan stays on all the time. So you would need to wire the cabinet in a similar manner to keep the fan and the turner on all the time.
The diagram below is what I have on my incubator setup. I roll my eggs by hand.

Aww, he's so sweet. They all are. I'm sorry the hatch didn't go well. That just sucks.

Thanks I appreciate the info and support.

One of the little bantam chicks had a little not even really pasty butt, but just some poppies stuck which I removed with a little warm water and a cotton ball and then later I watched and he is pooping just fine but I saw his little butt was a bit red and swollen, I used a Q-tip and put a dot of Prep H on it. All the other chicks are fine. Anyone know of anything better to use on it, or should I just leave it alone?

Desitin also works great and relieves the inflammation quickly.

How I make my huddle huts for baby chicks, I know most of you are more experienced than me, but I thought I would share this video I made on how I raise my baby chicks in the brooder. I brood my chicks indoors, this method is not meant for outside colder temps. Each huddle hut is good for about 10-12 chicks, and you can use multiple ones if you are brooding more chicks.

Cool idea. I hang a group of cheap feather dusters for the chicks. No added heat but it traps their own body heat, and gives them a "natural" instinct behavior.
