BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I am new this site, and have a few questions about a black astralorp chicken that adopted me. My question is how do I need to keep her in a coop before she will go in on here own?

As long as it takes to thoroughly clean the incubator and set more eggs so.....about 30 days.

As of yesterday and including this last hatch I was down to 99, but today is butchering day #2. I'll be down to 98.

Three days minimum, depending upon how quickly she learns. I always start with three days, then open the pop door so they can roam about and see if they've figured out to return to roost for the night.

I am not that sure that this is the right topic to post this but I'm certain many of you do have some serious experience with this and so I'd like to ask something about crossbreeding .

If you have a sussex , they are very well used as meatbirds as in eggs , and known for their big breasts , right ? How can I get that one crossed to maintain the big breast or better yet enlarge it and also make it a very good layer ??
I mean what breed can I use and is it the female or the male that has to be a sussex ??
Anyone ?

p.s; forgive me if this post is not in its place , couldn't really find another topic and in the ones about breeding you need more experience , which I do NOT own :s

I have almost 100 including the chicks (who are all so big it's hard to call them chicks any more). But after culling, I'll be back down to 50-60, which is still A LOT for me!!!! I'm building like crazy to keep up...
Oh boy I can see that a third coop is going to be necessary you guys are bad influences :)

Well with any cross it is a toss up what characteristics you keep, but you could try RIR, Leghorn or Orpingtons. They are good layers and decent sized birds.

Well, I'm horribly biased, but crossing with a Naked Neck Turken could easily help you attain your goals. (I think you'll find a lot of NN fans on this thread.) Not only do my NNs give me plenty of meat, but most of my girls lay upwards of 200 eggs per year.
