BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I meant to post this the other day but forgot so in posting it now.

My 6 year old grandson did his own producing some meat the other day. There was a 5 day special die season here so his daddy took him to the deer woods with him. Thus is what he got:

His daddy had to finish the kill, but he hit it himself.

That is great. That is a big moment for a growing boy or a young man, as you know. Thank you for sharing. We have a couple in the freezer ourselves.

Yes it was exciting for him. His mom told me that he's getting over that one but wanting to get back in the woods. He's wanting to shot a "big buck".

That funny to me. They made him pull this one out most of the way by himself. Can't you just see him trying to pull out that "big buck".

Two of my sons shot a respectable 8 point for their first. It set that bar high from the beginning.

We do not have a lot of big deer, but we do have a lot of deer.

It was a big deal for us to see them have that experience.

I can see your son dragging the buck. I can already see the effort and determination. Even if it was not far, lol.

I have messed something up because there is no mail coming from any of dad's subscriptions on BYC. I know some threads go silent for a while but for all to go quiet seems strange. Other mail is arriving.Anyhow, dad is still connected to the IV but walks around freely and is pressing the doctors for release. According to Jason, dad is just about normal and even looks like it. He has shaved his head since his time in Viet Nam and again, according to Jason, he looks himself but with a two and one half inch long incision very near the scar from the original surgery. I don't think the doctors there are so easily pushed around or dictated to and I'm glad. I want him home but not at any serious health risks.

Thanks for reading. It calms my nerves to type here. I'll have Jason look at this PC as soon as we get dad settled. He will either correct the problem or make it worse.

This thread has quietened down quite a bit. Hope that is the problem.

So glad he's doing so well. Make him take care if himself when he does get to come home.

@draye is right. It did quiet down here for a bit. Tell your dad we need him back here to wake us all up again with his sense of humor.

That said, I'm glad his doctors are stubbornly pursuing the right course of action to ensure you father's well-being. Hospitals are never fun places to be, but sometimes those longer stays are necessary. It's better to stay there until he's recovered enough to put the professionals at ease. It will make the return home that much sweeter.

I'm really glad to hear that he's continuing to do well, and very grateful that you've continued to give us updates.

Anyone with experience with a Bloodhound as a gaurd dog for chickens?

My son came into one and has it place right now in the 10 x 10 x 6 dog kennel that I was using as a chicken run but had to move them out because if coons and possums both catching my chickens.

I'm letting him use it until he gets him a pen built for it. Just wondering how they do with chickens. I know they can be trained as coon and possum dogs in hunting.

Well . . . . that would be other than typical, but it might work.

I have never been unsuccessful with dogs and chickens. I simply will not allow contact, I win, and they learn.

I would be more confident with a puppy. I realize that there are dogs that I might not be successful with.

I was wondering where he is, since he isn't writing anything on NN thread so I went to seehis last posts to find this! I didn't know he had surgery! Hope he gets well in no time!
We miss him and his jokes!

To introduce myself to people who already don't know me. I live in Croatia and I came across BYC last year when we decided to get some chicken last year. Right now I have three mix breed big hens and rooster and big plans for this next spring. I love HUGE chickens and of course their eggs. Since most of big chickens don't lay as well as some smaller ones I hope you guys will help me to get big egg layers!
