BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

That sounds very tasty!

Do they eat a lot of fish too?

Absolutely but I suspect they would garnish it with a beef rib. Seriously...I thought Americans took down the beef but nothing compared to these folks.

If I had it to do over, I likely should have gotten a beef cut but I am hankering for chicken...so we'll cover the bases....... but NO FISH.

The Naked Neck tractor coop really varies in how much it needs to be tended because sometimes they'll turn the bedding, sometimes not, sometimes they hang out in there all day, sometimes not...

I was sick most of last week, all stuffed up. I walked into the Naked Neck coop (to refill feeders) on the first day I was starting to feel better and could breathe better - and I was horrified! It's an open hardware-cloth covered tractor, but the smell was not good. Got to mixing that bedding, adding sweet PDZ and fuller's earth, and then fresh pine shavings on top immediately. I wondered how long it had been like that (the whole time I was sick?!)

I'd buy an ammonia detector for their digs...

For sure, it takes very little time for chickens to become unbelievably stinky. Here's what I am thinking of ordering:

The trick is to use distilled water to wet the paper to ensure you get the correct reading.

sounds tasty............ is brining part of the secret process?
Beef for breakfast sounds like a better idea than Captain Crunch, for example...........
Brining?? goes without saying!

Low and slow. I'm thinking of something with mushrooms but I haven't gotten it laid out in my mind. I found some capons in a market in town but not for that kid!!! Just too expensive. I can make these old 'chew-toys' melt in our mouths. I may fix a beef dish too...these people eat beef for breakfast and that's NO JOKE!!!

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I'm glad the warmth is at least helping your arthritis, even if the humidity sucks. (This is why I love the desert.)

Coc Au Vin

Steak salad...garnished with
beer/butter steamed prawns.

Some sort of local Burgundy Wine.

.22 MAG at base of his brain...

Just kidding...he's a nice kid and I like him...but not
nearly so much as Ariel does. I've told her we don't
need any kids with dual citizenship!!!

Hellbender give him a chance- International is the wave of the future.
Although something tells me every boyfriend Arial has will be closely scrutinized no matter what! ;-)

I Just don't want her to get hurt. She'll be leaving in a couple weeks or so and he will be staying here...no future in such a relationship. A few laughs and dancing and whatever else goes on is one thing but she really likes this kid and he's too stupid to put on the brakes. Like all boys, he's into this for kicks and giggles but I fear she will get hurt due to her vulnerability.

You're a good daddy...wonderfully protective of your daughter. You make me miss my own father. I hope she doesn't get hurt either, but...as you know...the heart wants what the heart wants. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it all works out with minimal pain.

Dinner sounds great, by the way. I've yet to attempt making Coq au Vin, but it's definitely on the list.

I have a question I almost cringe to ask, but it is production related....When you cull birds at a young age, including chicks up to maybe 12 weeks, what do you do with the carcasses? The birds are so small and have so little meat...processing must be a nightmare...so what do you do with them?

At 12 weeks, you can fry them!

Just use more of them per dinner.

Younger, you can skin and make stock out of them.
