BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Yeah...even after drying it out it won't even turn on. It's not just the battery either because plugging it in didn't even illuminate the indicator light. I'm taking it to the professionals tomorrow and keeping my fingers crossed. :fl

@Fire Ant Farm
I hope your foot feels better soon. I can totally empathize. I've had chronic problems with my right foot for a couple years now. The Dr. wanted to perform surgery on my leg in three places to "fix" it, but I declined. Sometimes their "cure" is worse than the condition itself.

It will probably need a new logic board. They are not cheap-- usually better to get a new laptop.

Desert chic been there, done that! You are not alone. Have you tried the laptop in a bag of rice trick?
Coffee has acid in it. It will burn through the insulation in the laptop and then start frying the circuits. Water will usually kill it faster but even a small amount of coffee or soda is bad news.

The repair place will be able to get files off for you though.

At work, we had two laptops that were fried this month. One from water and one from coffee. They were Macs and the repair would be in the $600.00 and up range. Given the age of the laptops, it made better sense to replace them.

You can get a case to turn the old hard drive into an external drive quite cheap, which would let you pull off the contents of the drive onto your new laptop. Or if you are not going to upgrade to a different operating system, there are machines that will duplicate the entire drive - just plug the old drive and the new drive into the machine - cost me about $200 a few years ago. Well worth the money. Tiger Direct has a good selection of these types of items if you don't know where else to look.

Kids spilt milk in our new laptop, fried it. Fixed under warranty but supposedly nothing salvageable. Lucky we didn't have it that long, not much on it. Wife had hundreds of pictures developed through shutterfly afterwards, not trusting any backup anymore.
I fell asleep at the kitchen table (was tired..) and spilled probably the better part of a 24oz mug of beer in old laptop, it was drenched, wife was furious. I don't understand kids don't get in trouble 'accident' but me?...
Laptop was fine, keys sticky and crunchy after but fine.
Proves beers good milk bad right?

I wonder if the criminals on the crime dramas know about the milk thing? They blow their laptops up w/ fire and bombs and the police can still pull off enough info to convict them, throwing some milk on it would be so much easier for them.

fwiw, I am the "ex-Surgeon General of the Internet"...so let me offer a little clarity.

There is nothing in milk that affects computers that isn't in beer, water, or any other liquid. Electricity and moisture aren't good together, period. There is also no way that milk spilt on a laptop is going to leave nothing salvageable, whomever told you that was either telling you it would be too expensive for you to retrieve the data, or that they didn't know how. I have seen data reconstructed off a hard drive that had 35 x 1/4" drill holes in it. Even a smashed hard disk (and I mean smashed in a compactor) can yield much of its data.

I wonder if the criminals on the crime dramas know about the milk thing? They blow their laptops up w/ fire and bombs and the police can still pull off enough info to convict them, throwing some milk on it would be so much easier for them.

Its far more spectacular to see an explosion, and far more impressive to see them recover the data. Its TV or a movie, don't believe any of it...;-]

If you ever spill anything on a puter, turn it off ASAP, then either cover it in uncooked rice, let it dry in the air, or open it and dry off all the components. Leave it for at least 3 days, preferably 7. Then start it up again. It should be fine, even if you spilled a syrupy drink on it.

When I was first getting back into chickens I was convinced I had an egg-eater problem. Figured out after a while it was exactly what Beekissed described, opportunistic eaters due to shell issues. But before I figured it out, I spent time building a nice 8-hole set of rollout nest boxes. Since you can't put shavings in them and keep the rollout functionality, all it did is start the bulk of my birds laying on the coop floor, where they could still dig out a nest depression. I ended up dropping the slanted floors and converting it to standard boxes. I've tried going back to rollout a couple times, after my birds were habitually using the boxes, but I end up having at least half move back to the coop floor. Something to keep in mind.

@NTBugtraq why I said supposedly, I figured they just didn't want to bother. We'd only had it a month maybe and any pics or video that could have been on it we still had on our phones.
Old laptop had many but wife has them on one of those stick flash drive thingys? also. She decided it would be a good idea to develop them anyway.
Milk puter was on, kids playing games and didn't say anything...beer puter IDK? Probably off already..
