BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Here's something just a little different. I was wondering if we might have bitten off just a bit too much of dad's hellacious mix of canine-cajones when we decided to ultimately have two of these crazy pups. We even considered giving one back but Brother stopped those thought dead by sending me the following pics this morning, taken with a trail-cam.

Many of you know that dad has a massive pack of very large and aggressive dogs for the purpose of protecting his 'compound' from all types of unwanted guests and they are turned lose at night when everything is locked up. We never felt we had enough property here to require two large dogs, as we are invited to WV at the first sign of SERIOUS civil unrest but our thinking has changed.

These pics were taken not 500 yards from dad's goat barn and were collected today. What will surprise many, we have black bear moving around this area of KY...more and more frequently every year. None of us are afraid of bears...in fact, when we get a chance, we hunt them in West Virginia with dad's hounds. Great fun and harms no one...Yes we do shoot the bears but only with CAMERAS for the last several years, however we do not condemn those hunters who do take bear because they have to be thinned. There are more bears in West Virginia now than there were when the Native Americans were chasing them around with sticks and arrows, 300 + odd years ago. They seem to be like rabbits, the more that are harvested, the more prolific they become. Those stats can easily be checked with WVDNR.

In any event, since we have chickens and rabbits and... goats will be here in early spring of 2015....both pups can stay. They are a major pain in the butt, quite literally sometimes, I think they will give us a heavy layer of night-time protection pretty soon...especially for these miserable coyotes and worse, coydogs.

Enjoy the pics...Jason estimates this one to be about 400 pounds...quite large for that (or this) part of the country.

What kind of dogs were they again? And you were only able to get two?

Two is way more than enough! They're a cross between Heeler male and Caucasian Ovacharka. They're just pups and the biggest one weighs over 70 pounds. I'll try to get pics.

We've been working with them but it's tough. They hate to be separated and progress is slow however they adore us and Mr. Jimmy so we have decided that formal OB is not in their nature so as long as they can be led on leash...that will be good enough. Essentially they stay kenneled during the day and are allowed to roam an area that is fenced with high tensile electric that is charged with one of those very large units manufactured in NZ, specifically to hold and protect sheep. It carries a lot of 'whammm'. My grandpa had it installed several years ago but it still works like new.

How about getting us a picture? I have never heard of an Ovacharka. My DD got a new boarder at her shop today. A massive doberman pincher. He is so ********* off he has destroyed the bedding and everything in his huge crate. And then started on the crate itself. She called the owners and asked if it was ok to give a benedryl to make him sleepy. It worked. But they had to take everything out of the crate. Tantrum city.

Ok...here's a pic of a purebred. The crossbred pups

don't look or act any friendlier to strangers. I'll try to get pics of our pups soon.

I hope you post beware of dog signs so your insurance won't drop you.

My ins. comp. dropped me over my 1/2 doberman and 1/2 rotttie even though the agent stepped over her to take pics! UGH

Ours are just babies! Dad has the one or two that I'm a little scared of, based upon what Jason has said about them. If you came buy here now, these punks would get you down and roll you around until you were slick with puppy-spit but the only damage would be likely the destruction of your clothes.

We're not going to do anything that would encourage their natural distrust-dislike of strangers, especially at night.
Just so you realize I will NOT be visiting you. I don't want to have to run. They look fast too.

No such signs. Only clearly posted warnings that no one is allowed to trespass. My dad is a lawyer and says that "Beware of Dog' signs advance the idea that you are aware of dangerous dogs are on the property.

Insurance. I reported the dog's presence here and the fact that they are old-world livestock guardians, a term she is very familiar with. She asked if they had ever bitten or attacked anyone and of course, the answer is a resounding NO! I further explained the pups are in pad-locked kennels during the day and most of the night at this time but will be loose in a Fully Locked and Secure area of pasture during the night hours, soon in the future.

We are fine unless someone is attacked and anyone who gets attacked will have a hard time explaining why they were on the wrong side of a 6 foot electrified fence after midnight! (Provided they are able to explain anything at all).

Don't get me wrong, your points are well received and the situation is a bit disconcerting.

Quote: That is great! Alabama is so different on some issues. Here they can sue you if your dog bites them while they are robbing you! We had a beware of dog sign up, but someone stole it! lol I won't lock my dogs up, we need protection from predators! :)
