Just figured I'd throw this out there..... panting is cooling by evaporation, like sweating is. With them, they force air quickly over the moist inside of their mouth, it evaporates, pulling heat from the body to do so (the same reason you feel cool if you're wet in a breeze). The higher the humidity, the longer it takes for the same amount of moisture to evaporate, if it does at all.
