I need help. I free range my chickens as in they don't have a run at all. the only time they are ever in a cage is before they can fly out of their baby pen, they a sick, I'm checking them over or they are at a show other wise they are roaming about 10 acres. I wan't to breed them and I don't have just one breed. I have cochins, jersey giants, silkes, bramhas, OEGBs,wyandottes and more. I want to give the people I sell to pure bred chickens. it would be simple if I only had one rooster but I have 3 they share the hens. 1 doesn't mind cages but my cochin rooster (prize posection) just stands there and watches the hens and never make a move on them. The Jersey Giant( beautiful) runs up and down the side of the run for a long time and some times doesn't calm down and breed. If anyone can help that would be great

The only way you'd know that they are pure bred is to separate them out by breed and put them in runs according to breed or variety of breed. I'd wait about 2 weeks before trying to sell "pure" eggs.

okay but I really don't want to cage all of them at the same time what I was thinking was like put the hen(s) by them selves for a few days and thenput the rooster in for a week or so that all the babies would be his do you think that would work?
