Breeding goats

do you think letting them be raised by the skittish mom will teach them to be afraid of me?

That has been my experience with both of the nannies and doelings.
You can ask at your feedstore if they know anyone with a stud. Look for a local goat club. I'm sure you know to be careful with Craigslist.

I'd be wary of craigslist for finding a stud service. A lot of scammers out there. I'd start inquiring around breeders locally, and also know what kind of bloodlines they have. Some people stud, some don't, some allow the doe to be boarded until she comes into heat, some the doe is brought over when she is in heat for breeding that day. I bet those people who don't stud know people who do. Is your doe registered and do you want the kids to be registered? Be sure to find a registered buck to breed her with then, and get the appropriate sire paperwork from the breeder. If you own the doe at the time of breeding, the kids can be registered under your herd name.

I cant offer any advice & dont mean to jack the thread, but I have a question: I know most goats, except pygmies who cycle year round, only go into heat in the fall. Do Nigerians follow pygmy goats or other breeds???

ETA: Here is a nigerian breeder located in NV. I just glanced at the site so I didnt see whether or not they stud out their bucks, but you could contact them & ask http://www.desertwindsnv.com/bucks.html.

Im not to picky on bloodlines. I dont know my babies' bloodlines. theyre mostly to be pets. I wouldnt even mind of the stud wasnt a nigerian as long as he was small like them. What do i look for for her to be in heat? my whether is constantly *ahem* humping her so it cant be that LOL.

. From my research goats go into heat every 18-21 days for 6-36 hours. Signs can include excessive bleating & tail flagging as well as their busy area being swollen with mucous like goop dripping. Gestation is usually 150 days, but delivery can normally occur up to a week before or after the calculated due date.

I have some pygmies that im breeding for the 1rst time, as well as being a first time goat breeder, so feel free to correct me if im wrong guys!

BTW In threads like this it is customary that you attach pics

as well as starting a 2012 (or any due year) freshening thread lol.

ETA: Fias Co Farm's website has been a big help for me. Hopefully it will help you to

please be careful allowing strange bucks in to breed your doe. you could get several diseases like CL Cocci and others. CL is not cureable . so do your home work and make sure you see if they test for CL and other sicknesses!
