I have not bred my goats yet, but all 3 of my does were bottle raised and are very friendly. I think you will get the best pets from bottle raised kids.
If you bottle raise then you would need to milk the mother. Would she let you milk her if she is so wild??

Just a thought.

no she will not, which is why we want to try for a more friendly doe. From what i read you can buy formula to bottle feed, otherwise we will just have to make milking her a two person job until the baby is ready to be off milk

I have the formula. It is a powder in a big tub. Really easy to mix up. I plan on feeding my kids and using the goats milk to make cheese.
I am a few years away though.

oh good. yeah we got the goats so we could make cheese but it looks like milking this particular doe is going to be more of a headache than its worth.

This is a great site for goat info http://fiascofarm.com/
You
could look for a Nigerian breeder close to you that way you don't need a male.. Try a Nigerian club like ndga to find one locally. Nigerians go into heat monthly so breeding should be easy..

It's not the breed my Nigerians are so friendly I was lucky to get mine from a breeder that spent a lot of time with them. One was bottle feed and the other was nursed by her mother.

I love the chocolate doe. Another reason its too bad your not in NM is that my 2 purebred pygmies came from the Prairewood Ranch in Edgewood, & they have a HUGE selection of both pygmies & nigerians to choose from. Hey if your willing to drive (or pay shipping etc) to get your own buck I highly recommend them. In case your interested: http://www.prairiewoodranch.com/NigeriansForSale.html.

Anyways I bottle raised my 2 from 1 & 2 weeks old. The doe is like a dog & loves me to death. The buck doesnt care if I pet him or not. I also have 2 crosses I bought at a feed store at 2 or 3 months. The doe is normally pretty wild, it just depends, & the buck is cool with whatever. Both were screaming bloody murder & running all around when I first got them. I believe all factors (genetics, handling from birth, bottle or natural feeding etc) play a part.
