Hello all! I am raising my first batch of meat chickens. I have 29 kosher Kings that are a few weeks away from processing. I have butchered chickens before, but never a big batch. Call me a bleeding heart, but there are two or three females in the bunch that are very friendly. Friendlier than our egg laying chickens. They even seek out my toddler when he goes into the chicken tractor and they let him pet them and pick them up with no fuss. Maybe I’m a bleeding heart, but part of me kind of wants to keep them for breeding. We have a Rhode Island rooster, and I’m wondering if there’s anyway that they could be bred with the Rhode Island rooster and used to make future batches of meat chickens. I know that they are a hybrid breed, so they wont breed true, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience breeding kosher kings to dual purpose breeds and had success creating a good backyard meat chicken mix.
