ok, so i was on the website of stromberg and found for meat production the Cornish Rock Cross Slow Growing Chicks. Since they are slow growth there is less problems with the leg issue, now if im able to raise them to maturity, i guess this would be a good base to start with in the crossings to get the cornish genes in a more rapid egg laying bird. i was thinking if possible cross if any males survive with the New Hampshire females and the corish females with Red Rhode Island male. The offsprings would have Cornish/Hamp and Cornish/Red. Now if crossing their offsprings which would be Cornish/Red Male and Cornish/Hamp females that would give the cornish gene with the production red ability in laying eggs......what yall think......is it possible? I understand it will take time and a lot of culling but time is what i got since im disabled, that way i can have something to work on and not become crazy at home just sitting around.

From everything I've read on the subject, the "experts" say don't try it....Cornish X's are hybrids and there's no way to be sure that the offspring will produce anything like the adults.

Having said that, I'd be interested in hearing the results if you do raise some to maturity and produce offspring with them.

yes, i've also read threads from experts who say that it's no way it can be done but i've also read from other members that have been able to raise either males or females to maturity and bred them. they dont get a copy of the cornish but they do get according to them some big meaty birds....

.....it's worth a try.

I believe that you should try breeding the birds since they grow slower and are more likely o survive maturity. he chicks that you get may be exactly a broiler or a good meat bird but you should do it.

Breed broiler to broiler and not broiler to Non broiler.
this is so you get the best meat bird. many people will say that this is a waste of time but you should go for it.
GO and do it and succeed :D:)

Keep us updated on the progress of the chicks if you get o hatch any.;)

thanks for the info ghulst.....so how did your project work? or you're still working on it?
As I read the post....when he said work....I thought he meant he worked at a hatchery that does that breeds freedom rangers. I definitely could be wrong, though.
