Hey guys! I am finalize realizing my lifetime dream of breeding my baby birdies I have an 8 yo partridge silkie rooster who is definitely pet quality. He has feather quality issues including ingrown and (small) feather cysts on his feet. I want to breed him because I have NEVER had such a sweet, personable, wonderful snuggly rooster and I want his babies I have my eye on a 5-6 month old pet quality black silkie pullet to be the momma of his babies. She has "show flaws" but otherwise seems healthy. She does have *very* feathery feet however. My question is this- with my roo having foot feather problems should I be wary of breeding him to a non show quality girl with extra feathery feet? I am worried the chicks will inherit problems that are even worse. But her feet do seem to be normal and healthy so is it likely her genetics would win out? I have pictures of both, the black silkie is the pullet I'm considering buying and the red/partridge is my baby roo. This would be my first time breeding and I am still new silkie momma. Any tips or suggestions from experienced silkie breeders are more than welcome! I really dint care too much about show quality, and rather I want the chicks to be healthy. Thanks!
