Breeding Sapphire gems

That's my point.
Some of these companies are selling them as blue Plymouth Rocks. People are thinking they're getting the blue variety of Plymouth Rocks.
There is a blue variety of PRs and they are rare.
Those birds are not PRs they're just a hybrid mixed breed.
Its very misleading and imo more so then selling EEs as Americana. Neither of which is a breed at all.

I gotcha. I'm not into breeding so for me I just go for looks rather than true breed.

Well the company you got yours from are trying to pass them off as Plymouth rocks which is worse then calling EEs americanas.

Actually the hybrid was created oversees. Hoover's supposedly imported parental stock eggs to start their breeding lines.
The closest breeds you can use is a splash andalusian rooster over barred rock hens.

Thanks! I might have to consider trying this as a new breeding project!

Some hatches, they are now three weeks old. I was wondering if a bred the "sapphire gem" (whatever we're calling it haha) rooster to a splash Andalusian or barred rock hen. What would that do to the barred trait?

Is the rooster barred like its supposed to be?
A correct SG rooster would have one copy of barring and one copy of non barred so with a splash andalusian hen around half of each sex would be barred and around half wouldn't be. They would also be blue or splash.
With barred rock hen about half and half with the pullets being barred and non barred.
All cockerels would be barred. About half would be single gene barred and around half would be double gene barred.
Chicks would be blue or black.

I was just wondering if there was an update to this project. I have a small flock of SG and I am considering letting them breed. I know they won't breed true, but was wondering what was the outcome.

If your SG rooster has barring then breeding him with your hens will give you around 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash offspring. Around 50% will have barring and around 50% won't.

I would like to see some pics of the outcomes. I have this breed as well, pullets and Roos.
