Breeding two mutations.

And then there are the interactions between the genes....and the "modifier" genes. For example, Welsh harlequins are dusky and harlequin phase. Normally, with plain dusky, there is no rings around the neck of males, or blue wing speculum on either sex (think Kahki Campbell). However, when combined with homozygous harlequin the neck ring on males actually is enhanced and circles the entire neck, and the wing speculum is enhanced as well on both sexes (one of my favorite features of harlequins!)

Whose to say that extended black does not respond differently in the presence of homozygous dusky versus heterozygous dusky, versus wild type?

I have a drake that is heterozygous for harlequin and for dusky. According to the rules he should look like a regular grey, since both harlequin and dusky are recessive. But he doesn't. He shows some signs of his dusky half. I have had other drakes that are heterozygous for dusky, but have not had the harlequin gene, and they look like regular greys.

Houndhunter77: I doubt that the call is the father: not a single one of the offspring carry blue dilution...except for the one drake on the left. How long did you have the ducks separated before you started collecting eggs to incubate? There has got to be something more to this mystery...

They look awfully big to be Call duck size; is your Call drake that big? Did you buy him from a Call breeder as a Butterscotch Call?
Mine call duck i got from a poultry swap. I have to take better pics today of all the ducks for you. He was a tiny little shit. But he would chase the khakis around all the time. The other call duck crosses came out looking like this. Every single one of them. I love having you guys help me. Its kind of fun to try and figure it out. They are so beautiful im just thankful it happened.

I got the call duck and welsh male in the late spring and started collecting eggs in early june. Its so weird we were all baffled when they hatched. Lol

Since they hatched right on the 28th day they cant be that muscovy correct. All the eggs hatched within a day of eachother. This is him when he first hatched. Even had yellow wing tips. Also both the welsh harequin and call drakes have bright orange legs. And the khaki has dark brown. Notice the legs of this little guy.

It sucks the call duck got eaten by an owl. Otherwise i would just pair him with a khaki female and hatch a few eggs to find out. I would love to figure it out. I have so many people that want some if i can do it. I had a guy the other day offer me 50 bucks for one
