Breeds? Genders?

So, a probably final update.

Red bird, white bird, grey bird, big black bird, cream/brown bird, little grey bird were all males. We kept the Big Red boy, sadly the rest of the boys have vacated the mortal plane. The girls are the two of the same style (chipmunk type) and the little black bird.

Chanticleer and fluffycrow were spot on with their educated guesses! Thanks for your help with sexing them 😊

It's been a while since this thread and I didn't see this reply until now!

As requested, here they are now a year old (doesn't time fly!) All three of the original Girls, from left to right, little penguin - Cookie, and the two Chipmunks - Waffle and FlapJack :) I love them so much!

This has been the most helpful sexing info I have seen. Thank you for the EXCELLENT pictures and descriptions! I’m really sad for you having so many boys. I just got 7 from a hatchery in which I ordered all female. We are at 3 weeks and it appears I only got 4 pullets - at most. Have you considering caponizing if this happens in the future? It took me two years to find someone that is really good and it is such a relief to know I get to keep all of my babies now.

I'm glad you found it helpful! I struggled to find a thread that actually went from beginning to end, most give up mid way which is frustrating to say the least so I had to go all the way with it 😁

Having a lot of roos sucked because I didn't want them fighting or overbreeding my three hens so we ended up keeping one and culling the rest. Roos are friendlier and more confident in the beginning but I found this to switch at maturity and the hens became very friendly when they started laying. The one and only Roo we kept ended up being a monster so we ended up culling him too. Think I'm a hen only keeper going forward unless a special Roo makes me change my mind 😁

Hope you have great luck with your flock whatever you decide to end up doing even if you do have some Roos. I have never considered caponising, since I wanted mainly eggs from my girls so a bunch of lads strutting around eating all the food wouldn't be for my flock 😁 xx
