Not sure I'm posting in the right area, but I'll give it a go. Fairly new to raising chickens, especially here in South Carolina. Can anyone give me some recomendations of what the best breeds would be for our hot, muggy climate here? I do have some RIR's, a Wyandotte & a blk Star. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Any of the Plymouth Rocks should do well. I have barreds as well as blue, black and splash. The splash is the only one who seems to suffer. Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers seem to fare quite well, too.

I would not necessarily recommend a Delaware-saying that because I see folks mention them all the time and mine do not do well in high humidity, probably due to the dense musculature of their meat bird heritage, though mine are breeder quality, not hatchery stock. Hatchery Dels are sometimes outcrossed to Columbian Rocks and those are less "dense".

I live in SC and every breed I've had has done well, and I've had tons of breeds, even heavily feathered ones like silkies. If you have enough shade and fresh water, they should be fine. The only bird I've lost to the heat was a black tailed white japanese bantam hen about 8 years ago.
