My Lavender Ameraucana dont produce well, lay medium eggs, and go dormant with no laying for long periods of time over winter and summer. I spend over half the year just feeding lawn ornaments.
Are there any breeds that do well in a sub tropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, that can still produce eggs? Im in SC, in a region that still get a little snow dusting and colder temps in winter.
I know they are out there as a neighbor's stray mutt chicken built a nest near my coop in January and laid a massive pile of eggs right through the peak of winter, while all of mine had already stopped laying for months.
