There are a ton of these threads these days but my favorite breeds are
Bantam Ameraucana (not large fowl)
Bantam Cochin (not large fowl)
Speckled Sussex
even though this is more of a chicken thread I have to throw in my Swedish Ducks
I have seramas but dont love them they are for my sister! They are her breed
Plymouth Rocks, especially the barred variety. I have blue, barred and black ones
Ameraucanas, not the EE type. I have blue, black, splash and one blue wheaten cockerel
Delawares, heritage type, not hatchery type.
I love Giant Cochin. They are so grand and sweet. My roosters never peck at me ever. One use to sit on my shoulder, probably good he doesn't any more since he is so big. Any thing with feathered feet I love. I am waiting for my d'uccle from MPC. Won't see them until August but I can't wait!
I have always liked the thought of RIRs. They haven't let me down either. Love them! I got a Dominque in a trade last year, and had to put my flock down afterward, but ordered more Doms and absolutely love them. Their feathers seem softer, and more silky than my other chickens. And I like the Black Australorps for their size and temperment. All of my birds (except the EEs) are supposed to be on the aggressive side, and so they all seem to hold their own in the run. The EEs are definitely the lower 3 in the flock. I haven't fallen in love with them yet; I'm still waiting to see what kind of eggs (color and volume) they produce before I commit to them.
Chickens are to me like Lays Potato Chips, who could own just one breed? Really? Look at my signature line and see.
I generally love dual-purpose breeds except RIR. I love just about everything in blue because one variety gives you 3 if you cross them right. I have always loved Cochins though, bantam and standard. Who couldn't love a big old puff ball like those? I have no use for those little scrawny games or those dinosaur looking things that make me think "Ooh, there is a velociraptor."
