Breeds, winter hardy, egg production

I have three Black Austrlorps pullets. They are handling the cold fine, but all three decided to do a partial molt at 9 months and have stopped laying. Sigh. If I buy more chicks in the spring, I will get some Buff Orpington pullets. I have a BO cockerel; mixed reviews on him. Or I might hatch out some BO over BA crosses.

Is it spring yet?

Oh, a spring!
Beyond BA and BO any thoughts on the Wyandotte, RIR and barred (Plymouth ) rock?

Wyandottes have rose combs that handle the cold well. My Wyandottes are very calm. My barred rock would also work well for someone's first chickens. I do not have RIR, but I don't think they are as calm as Wyandottes and barred Rock.

Thank you very much for your input.
