Bresse Chickens

Can anyone tell me what Bresse crossed with blue copper Marans chicks look like?
I think I got a couple. Some popped up with copper spots on the head, but are colored blue or black.
I thought I took the boys out of their Marans "mom"'s pen before hatching

Ive been hoping someone answers your question soon, :idk myself. I think that the white is a dominate trait that usually carries on as a visual, but i Have Not studied genetics Nearly enough to tell you anything. You might do better to post your question in the genetics part of the fourm? There are lots of chicken people who study these things so they can breed to the SOP or so that they can produce sex linked chicks, OR socthey can produce blues... Genetics are interesting, and complicated, be prepared to take notes!

I just hatched 10 bresse :) so very excited to have a new project on the road :)

Thank you. I will look for the genetics section. I appreciate your input :)

I purchased some bresse hatching eggs off eBay.

4 chicks hatched, one cockerel and three pullets.

They are about 9-10 weeks old. The cockerel already has blue legs, but the pullets have light blue to almost white legs.

Do the females usually have lighter colored legs than the males?

Or are they all suppose to be the same color?

The breeder told me it's genetic and light blue legs may be show up.

if so; poor breeding stock I got my chicks from.

I had hoped someone else would answer you but it looks like since Tim lost his poor boys he has hardly been online.

That being said, two weeks ago i hatched 9 bresse, all their legs look to be coloring at about the same shade and rate. I dont Know the answer to your question and all ican give is my experience. I got my eggs from a local BYCer and i know her to be a very good buisness woman and very honest. She got her flock directly from greenfire. I have seen many different breeds that shes gotten from greenfire. She was honest enough to warn me that they might be mix bred because they had been free ranging. In my opinion, who you do buisness with and how they conduct themselves makes that woman worth gold. I reccomend that you only buy from Super Reputable breeders. Look for rigourous honesty, for example: do they acknowledge any faults in SOP? Such on and so fourth...

Thank you for replying. I'll have to find an honest breeder. Probably just order some from bresse farms. They have bresse chicks for $5!!!!!!

Yea i would buy those chicks at 5$ each, vs buying hatching eggs. Reputable sources are really a great tool, you can learn alot from the breeder. Ebay is really tough for quality eggs, there are some Really good people there, but you never know exactly what your getting into. Most good breeders are very enthusiastic about what they do, and they dont mind a chicken talk at all :)

Lol eBay is risky, but I've gotten some great eggs before. That's how I got my svart honas and ayam cemani. I had a great hatch rate with them; 6/7 and 6/6. No way I could afford $99 a chick.
