We have 3 stations, one is classic country, we have a soft hits AM station and a new hot country station. I am in sales, but I do a little of everything around here. (but hate talking on the air). It is a lot of fun and very flexible.
Sounds like a cool job! Though, I doubt I could talk on the air, either. I'm can't say I enjoy any new country, but I dig the really old stuff (Hank Williams era) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some rockabilly (Johnny Burnette, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Wanda Jackson, etc). There are a few comparably new-ish bands I like a lot that aren't completely rockabilly but aren't completely country, either... Kind of a more modern honky tonk/rockabilly type deal going on, I guess. Haha, hard to explain, but they're good! BR5-49 and The Derailers...ever heard of either of them?
We play a lot of that on both the stations. I am a country music girl all the way although I love me some 80s. Country is about all we have around here, but I do enjoy it. I only talk on the air when I have to and that is just usually severe weather coverage or the Halloween party. We are small market radio, but there are some perks to it like free tickets, interviews with musicians, etc.
