bringing goats too petsmart?

Now you guys are making me wish I had taken my best horse to PetSmart when he was alive...

Before anybody asks why I would do that, it's simple...because I could have and it would have really made people stare. Years ago I worked at a nursing home and I took him there a few times. The old folks LOVED it! I wanted to bring him down to the activity room on the elevator but they were a bit scared to let me do that.

This was a full sized 15HH horse. He could handle quite a few crazy things that you would never expect a horse to be able to, but that was because I used him for a few years as a mounted patrol horse, and he did MANY other things during his lifetime. He was the only horse we had at the time in the unit who could stand completely quiet under the elevated train at O'Hare Airport. He had no qualms about standing inside of bus shelters with me riding him. So PetSmart would have been very fun! Some PetSmarts used to have horse goodies, I don't know if they still do...I could just see him tearing open a bag and then I'd have to pay for it...

Actually it would all be because someone didn't take the time to train and socialize their dog! Two of my dogs are bigger then either of those breeds, and I can take both at the same time and still have complete control. There are lots of other animals inside Petco, rats, rabbits, ferrets, etc.! I'm not sure how you'd ever be safe anyway, what happens when that same dog sees another dog he wants to beat up?

As for what they might sell for goats, I've only ever been in a PetSmart once and it had a horse section that also had halters for sheep and goats, not sure if it had anything else, but either way that's something for goats! I don't use halters, I use dog collars and leashes though, so I could go shopping for my goats in a pet store. They don't have anything for Pot Bellied pigs that I've seen.

As for the risk, as I've said I've taken my "livestock" to many places and have yet to run into any trouble. Never even run into that snotty dog owner that objects to me having a pet goat or pig because their ill mannered and unsocialized dog may deside they "look tasty" or are fun to chase. I feel my goats are in much bigger danger of being attacked by a stray or neighbors dog that wonders onto our property.

I think you would be suprised my vet's office has a pet supplies/tack store attached, you actually have to go through athe store to get to the office my dogs will go through the door and if the have too much of their leash will go straight to the bin that contains the bull bones I buy for them now mind you there are 6 other bins but they know which ones they get , they will sit there and give me puppy dog eyes until I pick 2 out and put them on the counter.

Also about the dogs in Petsmart I had my airedale with me and needed to stop at Petsmart for a few things they were having one of those pet adoption days a bunch of cats a bunch of little dogs and one larger dog that was crated. The larger dog was in the process of being adopted and when my kids and I walked into the back isle to get brushes the bigger dog went BALISTIC barking and growling at us well my MISTI was not having anything to do with it and got her Menacing growl going until the other dog stopped, come to find out the rescue called the previous owners (was a private rescue and this had been an owner surrender, that the dog did not do well with dogs it's own size or bigger nor did it particularly like kids. The adoption was off immediately!! Yes my dog caused a commotion in Petsmart in defense of her family,....however she also saved a family with kids from adopting a dog that may have hurt the children! So all in all not an issue BTW my dog has been back into the Petsmart many times since and is quite WELCOME there.

ok...i want to hear some stories from people whose pets arent perfectly trained creatures that never ever act up or do anything embarassing.
any petsmart horror stories???

I had my mom and dads puppy and he had just learned to cock his leg to pee... yeah well he peed all over sweaters while I was talking to the sales associate
and then there is my small dog who is now 13 well she was stealing treats

again as I was askin what would be a good treat for a small dog

Maybe I should take my head nanny goat. She is about 150 pounds and just loves to butt dogs into the ground and up against trees walls and whatever other immobile surfaces she can crush them against. Imagine what the store would look like then.

Don't be telling me she has a behavior problem because I actually encourage it. A goat is supposed to not like predators and they are supposed to protect their flock mates against them if at all possible. I don't want to socialize my other goats with dogs either. I hope they can have just as much distaste for dogs as mom. She built hers with her good maternal instinct and hopefully her daughters will too.
