Hi all. I have a Brinsea Eco 20 with auto turn cradle. I used it last 3 years ago to hatch out 3 Emu's. Anyway, just got it out today, as my kids want to hatch out some chicken eggs. I figred I'd get it down from the attic, cleaned up and turned on to make sure ALL was working. Everything looks good. Just needed a new battery in my digital Spot Check.

Anyway..I have adjust the temp of the bator..where my Mercury thermometer mounted in the TOP of the unit, just under the fan, reads from 98.5 - 99F, and my spot check is located down at "egg level" about mid egg height off the rack. It goes from 99.7 - 100F

Is this close enough, or should I trust one over the other and adjust accordingly or???????

Any help or thoughts would be great.

Have you got a third thermometer to try, or can you switch those two somehow to see what the readings are? The temps do seem to vary some (esp if near the vent etc) even though they have a fan, but the 1.5* difference seems like a little much... the temps also vary if you are using the cradle depending on where in the turn it is.

Haven't got a third one. I did check my spot check in boiling water, and was spot on at 212F

I think as long as I'm in the 99-100F temp range I should be good to go.

I think my Brinsea Spot Check may be dying. It seems to be the thermometer that is readying "high".....both the built in mercury thermometer and my Thermopen, that I use for bbq-ing (which is dead accurate) both were reading right around 97.5F this morning after I restarted the bator, after I cleaned it and disinfected it to get it ready for my hatching eggs later this week. SO, I took the spot check out of the incubator for now, and am monitoring egg level temps with my thermopen and the top of the bator with the mercury thermometer. We'll see how close the temps are together now.
