Hello everybody,

I have recently brought the ecoglow 50 and at first I was a bit unsure after reading quite a few bad reviews, when it arrived I got it out the box and set it up, it got up to temperature quickly and was so hot I couldn't hold my hand on it for over 5 seconds! Anyway I picked up 30 chicks and placed them in there pen, they immediately ran underneath it and warmed up for about 5 mins, and so far it has been ok but I am unsure what will happen tonight! I have the chicks in a brand new 10x6 toung and groove shed with celotex insulation going all the way round half way up the walls, the temperature here is supposed to be -2 c!
And it is quite cold in the shed, all of the chicks are quiet and snuggled up underneath it and it is warmer in the shed than it is outside but I am still worried it will get to cold! I just need some advice really so anything will help, also they say that you can put 50 chicks under it when my 30 only just fit under it! I am going to either buy another one or a heat lamp in the future anyway because I will be keeping 50 or so chicks so what should I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Casey

Got my brinsea yesterday for 3 unexpected chicks. They love it! It took 2 seconds for them to figure it out and now they love darting in and out. Funny thing, last night (first night) I left the red light on so everyone to could see. They woke up every hour, chirping their heads off. So I got up and turned off the light. I figured, momma hen doesn't have a night light, neither would I. They all snuggled up under the brinsea and went to sleep. Woke up in the morning and I had to wake them up to eat. Now they just run in and out and I don't have to worry about the red lamp getting knocked over.

On a side note, the paper towels that I have in the brooder are from Halloween and it has spiders on it. No matter how many times I cover them up with bedding, the chicks go scratching and uncover them and peck at them. Already great foragers!

I think that's a little cold to use the EcoGlow. It seems like there was a lowest temp it should be used at, but I don't remember what it was. Does it say in the paperwork that came with it?

The Eco is best used when 50 degrees or more. I have used it when it was lower than that, but not for new chicks. I have chicks in my house right now because it's too chilly at night to rely on an Eco, and I wont use a heat lamp becasue of the fire risk.

Hello all, thanks for your replies, well all went well last night all chicks are alive, well and very active! I think it should be ok because as I said the shed has been insulated with 2 inch thick celotex and also I only have 30 chicks under there so there is more heat pad per chick, anyway it has been 0 degrees c today and the shed has stayed surprisingly warm, I will not put anymore chicks under there until the weather warms up.
All in all I am now very pleased with my ecoglow it has worked very well and gives me peace of mind.
Thanks for your help Casey

I apologize that this is very off topic but I need some help. My two week old chick ha one toe bent at a ninety degree angle. I just noticed it today but the chick does not seem bothered at all. I tried to attach some pics but it doesn't seem to be working. I am not sure how to proceed or what to watch for any advice or direction to information would be very helpful. Thanks so much.

This is our second year and we love this thing. We live off the grid and have a solar panel on the coop that feeds a couple of 12V batteries. Not sure we could have had chickens without it!

I have the ecobrooder 20 for my 6 chicks and it works great. Mother hens don't have glaring white or red lights on 24/7 they provide heat and safety so this was a no brainer for me. My chicks (buff orpingtons) are now almost two weeks old so I have it in the highest setting. They told me it was time to raise it when they were all sleeping beside it one night!

Chicks going to bed, sleeping all night and rising with the sun is natural. I have happy non aggressive no shreiking peeping or pecking at each other chicks. Don't think twice, highly recommend!
