Brinsea Ecoglow chick brooder - one BIG flaw!

Well they'd better be good, I've just ordered 2 of them.

I think you will love them! I sure do love mine! So do the chicks - it's an environment much more like their own mommas. They come out, eat, drink, run around, peck each other's feet, and then scramble back underneath to get warm. Pretty cute!

I want to order one too, but I do have a worry. I have ordered day old chicks that are coming in the mail. Will the chicks come out from under the Ecoglow in the very beginning to eat and drink?

No worries -- they scamper back and forth and are very cute!!! Believe me, they figure out where the food and water is very quickly!

Yeah, they do learn quickly what's what. When I first put baby chicks in the brooder, I hold them one by one and poke their beaks at the nipple drinker. Then I herd them all up and shoo them under the Ecoglow so they know where the heat is. They're usually just 24 hours out of the egg when I put them in the brooder, and for the first couple of days you don't see them much at all. But we all know they can go up to 72 hours without eating or drinking, so there's no need to worry if they'd rather stay under the hotplate and just sleep. After a couple of days they get much more active and they're out running about every five minutes.

We just received our first chicks on Tuesday (4 red stars)

! I bought the eco brooder because I worried about the hotter lamps since I have 3 young children. We LOVE the eco brooder! The chicks on day one were running back and forth between the food, water and warmth. They figured it all out in no time and seem to love snuggling down under the brooder at night time to sleep. I made our brooder box a big plastic bin since that way the kids can still peak in to see the chicks even when they are hiding out.

I liked the idea of the EcoGlo and ordered one that should arrive tomorrow or next day. Just in time to move the chicks to a larger brooder. The other plus was not having to have a light on 24/7. Brinsea did mention that a larger until will be avail in April for larger groups of chicks.
