Brinsea Improved and expanded Mini and Ovation incubators

Best advice I can give is don't mess with it too much. Needs to stabilize. I know it's hard if never hatched before.
By the way, I have the same Ovation Adv and just set it up to test for the first time. When you get to the Humidity Setting, it says right on the display "EX Only" so you can disregard thus setting as I suggested earlier. Remember also, as others have said, it's surface area of moisture element that controls humidity. Not the depth of water in the well.

Ok. So one thing that is different with these as opposed to the Octogon Models is that there is no hatching tray so to speak. Meaning one must keep the water wells covered (with supplied covers) during hatch. So, how does one wick into the channels as with the Octogon models????

I will say the Humidity is tough to control. I have the Advanced and have been testing it prior to setting eggs this Friday. I know once eggs are in, things will behave differently, but here's what I've found with no eggs:

My basement is on the cool side but ambient Humidity is 50%+/-. With no water in the Ovation, Humidity settles at 20%. which is workable... If I add just a little amount of water - I mean little - maybe 1 tablespoon, the humidity will rise to 45-50% After a few hours however, it reduces to 20% once again. More than that and I can easily get it to 70% - Hatching should be no problem, but as far as incubation, I will just add a little from time to time to average out around 35% I would imagine the water wells are much needed in arid climates but for me they are overkill during the incubation period. All of this was tested with VENT at half...

I am looking at the Octagon 20 or Ovation. It sounds like you have good knowledge of both. Can you share your pros and cons? Not having a hatching tray sounds a bit concerning.

I found the same thing that my silkie eggs were to small, they kept falling out or over.I got little foam hair roller cut a slit in them and put them over the egg holder,works grat.Got them at my dollar tree in the hair dept.

I use these in my Genesis incubators. In those, it raises humidity 15 to 20% and goes several days before adding more water. I set them in just like the picture.

Unfortunately no. The water channels on the Brines Ovation are built into the floor of the incubator. They are about 2" wide, 12" long and about 1" deep. There is a grated lid that covers them for when you remove the turner at hatch time. I think my method will work. Same idea, just a smaller container that will fit into the channels... If one is not enough, I can add multiple.

So I am reading the back and forth as we are getting ready to purchase the ovation 28 advanced. We have had the maxi mini with Turner but no humidity Guage. We have never checked humidity only kept the tray filled when needed. Our hatches have always been 99-100%. Are we lucky
