Brinsea Improved and expanded Mini and Ovation incubators

This is a stock photo (I'm at work!) but this is it! I'm not familiar at all with incubators so this whole process I've been jotting notes down so that I have something to compare back to. I'm picking up the eggs a bit later this morning and then I'll let them rest for about 12 hours and stick them in late tonight.

If anyone is interested I have a small egg insert for sale. Too small for my eggs. Completely new, unused. Asking $25.

That's the one I want, but may be putting the cart before the horse if I'd buy your insert.

But do you know how much your small eggs weigh? Or may I ask why breed of bird those eggs in your pictures came from? They look very similar to my OEGB's eggs.

Anyway-- I see y'all are talking about the Brinsea incubators. I have been looking at them, but am trying to decide between the Mini II Advance ,and the Mini II EX. from what I can tell the difference is humidity control. I'm new to this, and wondering if the humidity control is worth the extra $130??

Side note: I do work, so I am not able to be at home constantly checking on them, which is why I know I at least need the auto turner.

Either way of asking a question is fine!

Personally I think the humidity pump depends on your local humidity conditions. If you live somewhere really dry, it could be a major necessity. If you live in a humid area, you may not need it. Or even different times of year, this can vary.

So...you could try other ways of keeping the humidity up and see how it goes.... Or you can go big and not have to worry about it.

Whereabouts are you located? Maybe someone in your vicinity could give more insight.

I have 6 eggs in my mini advance right now that does not control humidity automatically nor does it give me a percentage. I'm a total wreck.

In my Test run it was averaging humidity between about 45% and 55%... since putting the eggs in my little digital hydrometer says we are around 55-65. Not sure if the eggs are making the difference releasing humidity or if my gauge is way off. On day three today... no idea how this is going to go. Please keep your fingers crossed.

And based on my level of anxiety I probably would have spent the $$ and had the automatic humidity included if I could do it over again.

I live in eastern North Carolina. Two days ago the high was 32 degrees and we had freezing rain, Today its 70 degrees and rainy, Tomorrow the high is 38 degrees.... Our weather is all over the place. Not sure how all that translates to humidity levels? But i can tell you the weather channel app says its 91% humidity today!

So, it sounds like to me i need to just spend the extra money, i worry about all my babies too much as it is... definitely dont need anymore anxiety!!

You could probably do without it, but peace of mind is priceless.

I would still highly recommend a hygrometer, and test it for accuracy! (google "salt test hygrometer") it's easy to do. Watching air cells is best to figure out the best humidity for you and your eggs.

In other words, there is no "magic" number. Start with less humidity, and raise it if the air cells tell you too. It's harder to correct if you start too high.
