Brinsea Improved and expanded Mini and Ovation incubators

It arrived!

So far, even before hatching with it, I really like this incubator (but that might be partly because I haven't purchased a new incubator in possibly 10 years). It looked very complicated as I was reading through the manual, but when I actually started adjusting the settings it was pretty simple and straight forward. It's fairly quiet when it is running, light to carry, and compact so it fits in places my old Little Giant styrofoam incubator didn't. I really like the external water filler as well.

The only thing I don't really care for are the egg inserts. I purchased the 40 small egg insert because reviews said that it fits bantam eggs, but I have found that not to be the case. My bird's eggs don't turn properly on the small egg insert, and they seem just a little too small for the regular insert. I wish they made one in a "medium" size.

All the same, I'm looking forward to seeing how incubation and hatching goes.

thanks for posting this. I'm primarily raising wyandotte bantams, so this could potentially be an issue for me as well. Is one or another Brinsea better for bantam hatching?

Hello guys, I have a very urgent question. I have an Brensea 28 egg incubator. My fertile chicken eggs just arrived at my house rn and my humidity is at 35% It should be at 45-50% they are here now and I don't want something bad to happen to them. What should I do?! I need the humidity to go up!:fl

Do not worry so much about the humidity. 35% is fine. Worry if it goes below 24% and add a bit of water if it does.

You do not have the model with an auto humidity pump?

Question, on the Brincea Ovation 28, according to the control menu RH is at 20% for the factory settings. Do I need to change that up to 45%?
My humidity is fluctuating a lot, anywhere from 35-60% and I've been playing around with the water and vent. I just feel like I'm missing something do I need to change the number to 45% on the factory settings from 20%? I didn't really explain to do that in the manual.
Thank you in advance!

Yes, change the setting to 45% if that is what you want to use. Wait until day 8 to turn on the cooling cycle. When you get to day 18, change the humidity setting to 65%.

Humidity will fluctuate at first. It will also fluctuate a bit because of humidity changes in your house.

Keep us updated!

Thank you very much. I appreciate it! So why in the factory settings does it say 20%? That is the part that has had me confused all of the factory settings seem to be set for chickens, so why would it say 20%?
Confused first timer....

That is a great question!

20% is on the low end for humidity for chickens.

Be sure to check the temps using a known good thermometer. I suspect the temps will be perfect though!

If they arrived by mail, it is best to let them sit 24hrs before setting.

I got the 28 Adv. model as well and will be setting eggs this week. If we manually control the Humidity with this model, why is there even a setting to set? Wouldn't we simply monitor what it is reading and adjust accordingly?
I suspect the setting is for an alarm to remind you to add water on that model. There is a model that has a built in humidity pump inside it so maybe they leave it as an option in the model that does not have the pump.
