Brinsea Mini Advance Incubator

Yes, you can set the automatic turning option off for hand turning.

Awesome thank you so much Chook Chick I just ordered my first batch eggs to be delivered the week of July 15th form Castle Delight Seramas and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it now to get the bator ordered.

I wanted to give a little update for anyone this applies to. I hatched out seven welsh harlequin eggs, a light breed of duck, and 4 of 7 eggs pipped in the wrong end. They barely turned in this machine and the fact that they laid horizontally contributed to this issue. I wouldn't really recommend this model for those hatching larger then small duck breeds. The company said essentially that they agreed when I called them. The larger eggs just don't fit we'll enough to allow the air sac to tip up on each egg.

I hatched 5 welsh harlequin duck eggs in a brinsea mini advance and two hatched malpositoned but they all managed to make it out on their own. I agree sometimes I had to turn the eggs myself if they missed a turn because they didn't fit properly. I think that's why two were malpositoned.

You're welcome....

Just let me tell you however, although I LOVE the Brinsea Mini Advanced, and had a 100% hatch rate in it, I incubated and hatched only chicken eggs. I did use the automatic turning as well. I will also tell you that since it is so small, when the chicks start hatching, it gets very crowded quickly.

So take that into consideration also. I had newly hatched chicks tromping all over each other AND pipping eggs

Another thing to consider is humidity......I had to monitor it constantly with the smallest monitor I could find as it had to go in with the eggs too.....as I said, it gets crowded FAST!

Other than these minor things, the Brinsea Mini Advanced is awesome!!

Thank you Chook Chick,I'm so on the fence on getting the bigger model but it's quite a bit more

We are on our SECOND Brinsea Mini. As some of you may recall, on Day 11, our brand new Brinsea Mini was toast. The electronics were all buggy, jumping almost 20F from moment to moment, heater on/off and completely flaking out. My daughter's first (very anxiously awaited) batch died waiting for a new incubator :(

Brinsea sent us a replacement and we are now of day 19 of 21. At this time, it is set to stop turning for full lockdown. It correctly shows "2" as days left, so no errors there.

Guess what? While we are watching and hearing two of three eggs pip and peep, it TURNS :barnie

Not sure what happened to their quality control over there, but they seem to have some really unreliable units in stock. We ordered directly from Brinsea, so shouldn't be refurbs, old stock, etc.

We carefully turned the eggs so the pips were back up in the air, manually switched OFF the turning in the menu. We also added a small container of very warm water to (hopefully) make up the humidity for all the opening and trying to fix this.

We'll know in a few hours if they are okay...

I fired off an email to Brinsea to tell them about this problem and have requested a return/refund. At this point, a homemade $20 incubator would be MORE RELIABLE than the Brinsea Mini they have sent us :(

I certainly do not expect to be losing multiple batches and dealing with flaky electronics for $170!

Are there good units out there? Must be, we've heard good things about them, which is why we bought one. But we've now received TWO in a row that are defective/flaky.

We're done with Brinsea. Now we'll find out if we get a refund or are stuck with a pile of useless plastic....

It is pretty, though :p But not $170 worth of pretty if it doesn't work

Wow! You really had some bad units! I bought mine from Amazon.com and it works perfectly. Sorry you had issues.

It's all in what you can afford and if you're going to get your money's worth out of it.

I was very excited when I received mine as well. I read everything I could get my hands on about incubating and incubators, even homemade incubators. For my needs and budget, I chose the Brinsea Mini Advanced and it performed beautifully for me. As I said before, I was just nervous when it came to keeping the humidity at 50-60% constantly until hatch time. It's quite an adventure and experience, my very first in incubating and hatching!!

Wow, my Brinsea has worked perfectly so far with 2 hatches. The first hatch was a 100% hatch rate. I never had any problems with temperatures fluctuating, or humidity. However, it did get very crowded with the 100% rate, and I had to hurry and pull out eggs while trying not to bother the pipped egg. But, on my shipped egg hatch, the automatic cooling feature didn't turn off like I thought it would, so I had a freezing chick at 1:00AM that I had to pull out and keep warm. Be aware, it's really the little things that scare you most.
