If his dogs come on to your property, I advise you to take them to a distant animal shelter. If they have tags on their collar - they will contact the owner. When he has to pay to retrieve them he might start to realize with pet ownership comes great responsibility.

Oh I fully plan on calling our animal control, which is thru our sheriff's department, they HAVE to take the dogs to the shelter by law, and yes he will have to pay to get it back and I WANT him to know it is me, I WANT him to know his dogs are in this shelter and he has to PAY to get them back, maybe after x amount of times it will FINALLY CLICK in his thick head that its CHEAPER to just keep his dogs in his yard? I mean, if I can manage it, why cant you?! Its really NOT that difficult! And actually I had thought about this as well, here where I live, if I catch ur dog, i can keep it, as long as I put it in a kennel or etc, take care of it, provide for this dog, in order for u to get YOUR DOG BACK U HAVE TO PAY ME FOR BOARDING! and if u refuse, u can go to court, pay the court costs and have a judge happily explain it to u for a price 😁💁🏼‍♀️ so again, not 100% which way I am going to go with mr funny man on the other side of my field but by God I wont be pushed around and I be damned if I'll allow my animals to be hurt because of ur lack there of common sense!

It was lovely to read your post. Thank you for making me smile.
I could never eat my little girls so know exactly what you mean. :)

Thank u so much I'm really bad at this 🤦🏼‍♀️ late last night I realized just how bad I was and came VERY CLOSE to deleting it all because I'm embarrassed as to HOW BAD I am! But thank u for the info!

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us :ya

Restrict feed and make sure they get lots of exercise and best of luck. Know they are designed to be processed at 14 weeks.

Thank you for the warm welcoming! But GOSH I just can not get OVER the fact they usually are processed at 14 weeks!!! Its just freaking UNREAL that it is that fast! I mean, I totally understand and get the reasons as WHY etc but I guess I just never really cared that much before because I didnt OWN any myself 🤣😂 and now that I do, and they have the BEST personalities, it makes me sad that I cant just give them a magic pill, an anti growth hormone if u will 🤣😂 make my birds slow down their growing so slow down the health issues that are going to come to bite me in my tail for getting them in the 1st place without realizing how bad their health was going to fail due to their extremely fast growing bodies....🤦🏼‍♀️ but like my momma always has told me, 'why do you HAVE to always pick, buy, end up with animals with something wrong with them!?' 😂🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ I asked her if I had a choice in the matter because a lot of my pets who had health problems, didnt show any signs until it was advanced, wasnt as if I go out looking for sickly pets! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I dont ENJOY watching anything suffer, I am not some sick monster! I just have dumb luck some times 😔

Updated, I did call my vets office today, asked the receptionist about my turkeys, how I could maybe prolong their lives. *this is the same vet my mom worked for for years before going out on her own as a dog groomer, so the vet knows my family very well, I have her stallion who, bless his heart, is 31 almost 32 years old and still got it going on! So it's safe to say her as well as her staff r already up to speed on how 'attached' I get to my pets 😂🤣* because she was in the process of leaving for the weekend for an out of town trip, she is going to call me back on monday with some tips that I also can try as i told them all that i was told thanks to all of yall on BYC 😁🤗 and if she could help add to it I would be very grateful! As I just lost my black German shepherd after 12 almost 13 years *had her mother and she was born so I owned her her whole life*, lost my black lab after almost 13 r 14 years? Together a few weeks before my gsd, and in between this, we had to put my daughters horse down after 25 years, so like I said, it may sound stupid to everyone else but I would do literally ANYTHING in order to NOT have to tell my 8 year old that yet another pet has passed away, and to see her face, and yes, it maybe 'just a meat bird' but to my daughter, they are her buddies! So if I sound like an idiot for worrying about them, that's okay with me.

Hello and Welcome to BYC!!
I am sorry for your losses :hugs
As for the turkeys I don't know you might have better luck in the turkey form here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/turkeys.20
we once had Turkeys for meat when I was like three years old and they ran around pecking and Chasing me but lucky for me (sad for them) my dad had it with them and killed them. (they were bigger and taller then me at the time so it was really scary something I will NEVER forget)

Best wishes and the most of luck with all your animals!
I am sorry about your turkey drama :lau

This is the only social media thing I do. I was terrible in the beginning, posting here on BYC. We are generally a friendly and considerate bunch, so please don’t feel embarrassed about how or where you post :)

Plenty of information here, for turkeys too. (But never the duck forums. IMO, They are a bunch of quacks)! :gig :lau

Don't beat yourself up over it. I meet dozens of people each year that ended up unknowingly bringing home meat birds. The basic problem with them is they, unlike their heritage counterparts, over eat and develop muscle before the organs can catch up. If you slow their food intake and get them plenty of exercise hopefully you'll get a year or two, maybe three out of them. Also note worthy is that meat birds are among the cuddliest. Turkeys, next time out go for a heritage breed, are like big feathered dogs. If properly socialized they will love spending time in your lap and getting petted.

Full disclosure, I do raise birds for meat, but I also raise endangered breeds for layers who really do become pets.
