I would never feed chick starter to turkey poults or pea chicks. In the case of BB turkeys it is especially harmful because of the insufficient levels of lysine, methionine and niacin for proper development. It can hasten leg problems in BB turkeys.

I do not feed medicated feed of any kind to any of my turkeys and have no trouble with coccidiosis. Amprolium is the active ingredient in most medicated starters. It works through the use of a thiamine blocker. Niacin and thiamine are both B vitamins that are critical in proper development of the leg joints.

At 6 months old, your turkeys should be on an adult feed. I recommend using an All Flock or Flock Raiser because either will contain the appropriate levels of nutrients for adult turkeys. Oyster shell should be available free choice separate from the feed.

The total for all treats added together should be no more than 10% of the total amount of feed that is given. More harm has been done to poultry through excessive treats than through any other way.

Medicated feed should never be mixed with any non-medicated feed. The medicated feed has the correct amount of medication when used as the only food. Mixing it with non-medicated feeds brings the medication below effective dosages and is worse than not feeding medicated feed at all.

I have All Flock feed available to all of my poultry all of the time. Oyster shell is available free choice all of the time. Fresh water is also always available.

Lots of free range time, exercise and little to no treats can be helpful in extending the lives of BB turkeys. Some people do put their BBs on a diet but keeping them active is more important.

Thank you very much for your great information! How often should I probably separate them to feed them a day from my chickens? So they aren't eating as much as the chickens eat? So I can put them on a diet?

How old are your chickens? If they're the same age as your turkeys, the'll be good with an all flock type of feed as well. When they start laying, you can move to a layer feed, but a lot of folks don't because there's really too much calcium in it for those who don't lay. They just stick with the all flock with oyster shell on the side. An all flock or game bird feed is much better for your turkeys.

Plenty of information here, for turkeys too. (But never the duck forums. IMO, They are a bunch of quacks)! :gig :lau

😂🤣 I swear idk y but reading ur comment reminding me of the time when we had 6 mallard ducks while I was a teenager. Started with 2 hens and a drake, ended up with 3 and 3 and 1 day my mother decided that living in on our property where we tried to have a pond dug for our ducks wasnt possible due to the water table and etc. So she decided that they needed to be on the water, down the rd at the river to live FREE! So she rounds them up and takes them and releases them all in the river, and about 6 hours later she is crying her eyes out and has my dad go in his work van with his COMPANY'S NAME WRITTEN ALL OVER THIS VAN, to the boat ramp to grab her ducks! Now the folks down at the boat ramp see my daddy and mom jump out of a van, chasing after these 6 ducks, grabbing them and throwing them in the back of a van, slamming the doors and driving like bats outa hell because the ppl thought my parents were stealing these wild ducks and had no IDEA what was going on! 😂🤣 needless to say a while later momma gave them to a friend who had a pond. But that just popped in my head and I had to share my weird family story with yall 😂🤣 I swear I can not make this crap up....

Yes my chickens are the same age, and yes my hens are laying... and I know this is gonna sound crazy but I been finding these off white eggs near where 1 of my turkeys this past week? I KNOW it's not possible for it to be an egg from my hens because my hens eggs are all counted for whenever I have found these eggs, and the ONLY possible thing is it would HAVE to be a Turkey egg? Because it can NOT be any one elses egg... but I'm not 100% sure what exactly their eggs look like and what I've read, they're too young to lay eggs but then where would this egg come from? Does this even LOOK like it's from them because it CANT be from any of my hens, they all lay dark eggs and the 1s that lay light eggs are silkys 😂🤣 and THAT COULDNT of came from them, good God that would have split that bird in HALF!

Those are definitely turkey eggs. Enjoy them, but you'll find them much harder to crack then your chicken eggs.

Then same set of ducks, 1 got 'sexually frustrated' *moms term* and he had his tally wacker that somehow got hung on the OUTSIDE of him, and he couldnt get it back up. I came home from school to him in a dog kennel, a box of gloves, a BIG tube of lubes, it actually just said LUBE in big letters on it, next to him, and moms telling me that its my job to help her get it to go back up or else he had to be put down!😳😳😳😫 omg! I didnt think that we'd ever get it to go back up, it took half that tube, multiple glove changes, cussing, praying, me getting scratched ALL UP and bleeding down my arms *I looked like I was a cutter going to school the next day trying to explain to my teachers how a ducks penis caused the scratches on my arms!* but we got it! Talk about mother daughter bonding time!🤣😂😳🤦🏼‍♀️

It's the love that binds us! even with duck tucking!

Ok, my mom actually said the same thing about the oyster shells 🤣 so I clearly am going to follow yalls advice, but chick starter because I also have chickens and 2 roosters that may end up as dinner 🤔😂🤣 havent decided yet on what to do with them at this moment.... let me get jumped on 1 more time and I'll let u know their fate! 😂🤣
Turkey and game bird feeds while not needed by chicks or chickens are not harmful to them. In the rare case that I brood chicks with poults, the chicks get the same feed that the turkey poults get. Not feeding the poults the right feed is harmful to the poults. Feeding a better than required feed to the chicks is not harmful to the chicks.
