broad turkey

How much would you pay for a mature broad turkey tom? I saw one at auction today along with the hen, and just wondered what they were worth? The guy said the hen lays almost daily, but they were unfertilized because he couldn't reproduce. They went for $36. Did I make a mistake in not buying them? The tom was HUGE, over 40lbs with legs at least an inch or more in diameter.
I don't butcher my birds, so they would have just been pets here. I feel bad because the woman who bought them was going to have roasted tom for next Sunday dinner. Maybe I should have gotten them instead of being cheap. Were they worth $36.

Nope. JMO but if you were going to keep them as pets they're just moments away from getting sick from being too big. These monsters were bred to grow very fast and very big and when they mature they get congestive heart failure, can't walk and other problems you don't want to mess with. If you were just going to eat them.....maybe.....

I wouldn't give anything for a Broad Breasted turkey. Like Lor said they aren't long lived at all, the breed has been bred to grow as fast as possible in the shortest amount of time.
