Broke Chickens

I have some broken chickens. 2 hens that havn't laid the 1st egg and a Rooster that don't crow. They are all at least 24 weeks old... What do you think? I know some hens won't lay until the next spring, but will they start this late?

Your roo hasn't found anything worth crowing about yet. Your hens aren't broken, just not ready.
What breed are they? I waited for first eggs from some of my LF brahmas until they were 38+ weeks old.

My chickens are all broke too.

I tell them that's a natural consequence of working for chicken feed but they don't care.

I had a Black Jersey Giant not lay until she was almost 28 weeks old and a Buff Orpington until she was 25 weeks old. I remember the waiting being awful for that first egg.

Yesterday my Buff Orpington rooster crowed for the first time., 23 weeks old It was more of a croak, but he did it. My BO hens have not yet started to lay. But their combs are coloring up. It should not be long now.
