We noticed during our free range time one of our hens has a broken beak. We are first time chicken owners, so this is new to us. She seems to be eating and drinking fine. Is there anything I need to do or watch for? TYIA!!

Thank you!As long as she is eating and drinking, I would just monitor her. Check to make sure her crop is full in the evening. If necessary, provide moistened feed in a deep dish until she heals.
thank you!Beaks grow back. No need to worry if she is eating fine.
Thank you! Unfortunately, I didn’t see it happen. They are in a run covered with hardware cloth when we aren’t free ranging them. She could have been trying to get something through the hardware cloth? I do know it happened some point today, because it was not like that yesterday.Beak injuries can be very painful for a few days. Make sure that she is drinking and eating. Make a small amount of wet chicken feed with water, so that she can get it easily. The keratin layer should grow back eventually. Do you know if she was sticking her beak through chicken wire, or how she injured the beak?
