Today after work I found what looks like a broken and dried egg stuck on the wood under my roost. (I have a pallet for a roost) Should I be worried? The shell seems much thinner than normal, as well. I have attached pictures as well. (One of each side)

I have 3 laying hens, and 5 that are just at 16 weeks, and to my knowledge have not laid. (2 are very, very close to laying, tho. Their combs and wattles have grown and are very red. My rooster hasn’t been paying attention to them yet, tho, so I don’t think they are laying. But really, who knows?)

This looks like a soft shelled egg which is fairly common for new layers.
Nothing to worry about.
Just make sure you feed a layer type feed and limit treats to an extremely small amount.

That’s good to know. My 3 girls have been laying pretty consistently and the only irregularities I’ve had were the occasional double yolker, so I just wanted to make sure. Thank you!

I also haven’t given them treats much, but yesterday I have them the rind of half a watermelon. I’ll hold off on a little bit before giving them more, just in case. :thumbsup
