My chickens managed to literally break my nest box wall and it fell over and broke an egg. Thankfully only one. Once I fixed the wall the broody hen came back.

(We had locked up all our chickens in one run due to bird flu in the area, I think they went wild in the nest boxes.)

Anyway, the broken egg clearly has a late stage chick in it. I can't tell if it is alive. Is it a lost cause? I put the poor thing in the incubator we already had going but am wondering if anyone has had experience with a severely broken egg succeeding

I have personally dropped a late developed egg one time, making some small cracks on the shell. It ended up surviving and hatching.
I would give it a shot. Not sure how bad the crush was— are you able to post pictures of the egg here? What day is the egg on?

You can try candling to see if the chick is alive. Good luck.

It does look quite bloody…
I’m not sure. I’ve never had it this bad. If it were up to me, I’d still give it a chance especially if you saw it moving.
Not sure what day. I think under 5 days left. The current hatching we are doing is an absolutely unplanned clustercluck
It looks pretty far developed. You don’t even know a general range? So they could hatch any day?

Okay clean ed. AT least 2 are pipping. Should pips be put straight up? I think that's how they were found.

Any emergency advice appreciated.

16 eggs, 2 pipping. All are stinky like the water was, but none stand out. I assume I can't clean the eggs.

Yes 2 seem to be pipping right now. Any day from right now to 5 days I guess based on incubator. 3 already hatched

No, don’t clean them.
Pipped eggs should be left sideways. Although the chick will naturally find the best position usually.
