Broken eggs on coop floor

Catch them in the act and get them out of there. It's not half the flock if you're getting 16 eggs out of 22, that's only 6. Get rid of them now before your entire flock starts and you have to cull them all.

Thanks everyone! Will scope it out early tomorrow and see if I can find the culprit(s). Will try the isolation first before any culling. I really appreciate the help.

I would isolate them in small groups if it is worth the trouble to you. Sounds like you might have one that drops the eggs from her perch instead of laying in a nest. First egg I found was under a perch and broken and a buff comet looking at it, but not eating it. I was just in time to stop a potential egg eater. Found one more like that and cracked but not opened. No further problems. Balance have been in nests exc for one buff comet that layed one at my feet in pen at 17 weeks old.

May be only one or two, not as many as you think. Others may have sampled, but not yet formed the habit. Protein deficiency can aggravate that behavior too. kEstra protein could turn some around from a life of crime. Worth a shot. Once they are in the habit, they cannot be broken from what I have read.

If we ever feed ours eggs, they would be boiled and chopped up, and never raw and no shell present!
