Hi. I just joined. I have had hens for about 3 years. I have a new flock of 6 that are about 10 months old. One hen has multiple broken feathers on her upper breast. Vet checked and there are no sores or little critters (lice, fleas etc.). I have been observing more often to see if she or others are pecking. It is not apparent. Does anyone have an idea what is happening?

Yes, others could be picking or aggressively plucking feathers. My flock leader will chase others away from treats and as she chases them, she bites at the back of the neck feathers and they get broken off.

Make sure you are feeding them a good feed with plenty of protein. Limit the treats and free ranging so they get enough of a good diet. Make sure they all have enough room in the coop and run so there is not competition for food or water, and they aren't so bored they are picking on each other.

Good luck with your flock and welcome to BYC!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X3 it does sound like you have a feather plucker, though that is a rather odd spot to be plucking... could they be doing it on the roost at night? You might also try posting pictures.
