broken toe

if the other chickens are not bothering her i wouldn't worry to much, if they are you will need to keep her separate until it heals enough so she is no longer limping or in danger of getting beat up ... as for bumble foot it can be pretty serious. you need some good antibiotic/ first aid supplies to remove bumble foot. untreated it can kill the chicken. its a infection that needs to be treated in order to go away....i don't know of any roots or herbs strong enough to treat staph.

Try and set it but do not try and bandage or splint it. Maybe it is just dislocated. If it creates more discomfort and pain by trying to set it just let it be. Nature will take its course. I currently have 3 chickens with broken toes, it happens all the time. I did not intervene and they all seems to be happy and doing their thing.

Wow did I find the right thread. Just got our 8 week and 4 week old chicks out of their Coop and into a large pen for the first time. It was only then that I noticed the older chicks about 7 of them have broken or deformed toes. It looks sick really really gross and I wasn't sure what to do. They're probably old so I feel like I would do more harm than good trying to splint them. I guess I'll keep an eye on them to see if they have trouble roosting or walking.

I bought in a few Legbar chicks, one of which had 3 broken toes on one leg. It has never bothered her, she is now 3 months. She was very down a week ago but I dont think it was anything to do with her toes. She has now perked up again thanks to Nutridrops and Oregano and looks fine, but obviously still has the broken toes. There is nothingI can do now and am wondering how one knows if they actually hurt her. I wouldnt think she could scratch with that leg but luckily her other one is perfect.

I have a 2yr old Black Australorp hen with a very broken rear toe (chicken thumb). it is snapped in half and is just hanging on by the skin. She can stand but cannot walk or roost. Going to splint and wrap it once my wife gets home and see if we can get her moving again.

I have a 3 month old black australorp with a broken toe & I'm not quite sure what to do. We hadn't noticed it up until this AM when we let them out. She doesn't seem to be distressed, but I'm wondering if it's going to bother her as she gets heavier. It's the first forward pointing toe on her foot. Any advice?

I also have a Australope that i think one of the toes might be broken i was wondering the same.
