Broken wing?

I hear you. I've never taken one to a vet either. Are you sure the wing just hangs, or is she using it to try to compensate for the leg?
There is a thing that happens when a chicken gets hit in the back by another chicken. I don't know the medical term for it. My husband just used to call it getting "coupled". And when it happened, the chicken who got hit would get almost paralyzed in one or both legs. Sometimes they would pull out of it with enforced rest and a bit of physical therapy, and sometimes they would not pull out of it.
Never occurred to me that it might be Merik's. Good point, and if that is the case, I don't have a clue as to what to do other than put her down, and sanitize the place as best as I could.

So maybe it isn't my imagination!!! I thought maybe she was using her wing as a crutch at one point. I was gone most of the day today, so I'll have to watch her closely tomorrow. She is in a small enclosure so she can rest and not further injure herself. I felt her legs and didn't find any breaks, and she doesn't squack in pain at all. It's been a huge mystery so far lol I'll watch closely tomorrow and update :) thank you everyone for all the replies and idea

Update: sure was still the same this morning. The feed store I bought her from gave me tetracycline to give her. I checked on her just now and found her like this. She didn't get any worse in the last 24 hours, until just now. What in the heck could be going on with her?!?!

Look at the hole she is laying in. Do you think she might be having seizures? Or a stroke?!

She can not right herself any longer

She may have Meriks. I would put her down at this point, or is she already dead, and take her to your local extension office for necropsy. I don't think they charge for it, and you probably want to know what this is.

what is an extension office?

Actually, the extension offices in each state are government funded agricultural offices that offer information on anything to do with agriculture. Gives you access to people who can answer your questions about farming. So, I was wrong about having a necropsy done there. The extension office can probably direct you to which (usually a university) lab accepts animals for necropsy in your state. You need to put the bird in a plastic bag and put her in the fridge. Not the freezer. If you go to Bsckyardchickens.com and search for where to send a bird for necropsy, you will be directed to a page that gives address for some labs in Calif. where the bird can be sent. No cost to you other than shipping unless you are from out of state. Then there is a fee. But on that page it shows how to prepare the bird for shipping. I am in WA state, and my local lab is at the Washington State University Poultry lab. They have a huge agricultural dept there. Wish I could be of more help to you. You would get better information on the Backyard Chickens web site.

thank you! I've started calling around :)

Hey Courtney

I am so sorry .. it definitely does look like it is neurological now [? Marek’s]

While I too understand the reasons for not taking her to a Vet, a phone call to a Vet may be worthwhile in that they will probably know your closest lab or University that do necropsies.

unfortunately I've tried the vets out here, and they are useless and not knowledgeable on much :/ I'm about to email the animal disease lab now though. Thank you :) I appreciate all the input

Is she still with us?

As I said, I am definitely not an expert, especially on Marek’s, if that is what it is but I have read that it is not a death sentence.

Have you searched BYC at all? There may be some treatment options.

Unless you feel she is suffering and do not want to prolong it longer.
