I have some chick friendly shaving but was told to put paper towel down to stop them eating the shavings when they first arrive in the brooder. How long should I keep the paper towel on?

I also was wondering when I could start giving my little girls some treats and grit, they are only 3 days old. Do I give them the grit first and then some extra bits of food? What would you suggest giving them, what have your chicks enjoyed?

Thanks for any advice, I'm a newbie at this and want to give them a good start in life!

Most people use the paper towels for about a week.

You can start with non fibrous treats like scrambled eggs (good because they are high in protein) or tiny bits of soft fruit with out skins or seeds. I think I started with chick grit fairly early, but I'm not sure about full sized grit.

Thanks I have some chick grit so I'll give it ago when they are a week old

I used puppy pads and they worked well for me. Just make sure they arent picking at the plastic
