Brooder Box Repurposed ! What’s your repurposed chicken related item?

After making a brooder this past winter is was a shame just to let it sit. So I decided to repurpose it for the rabbits while not in use. Just need to add a couple pieces of metal roof for shade and rain protection.
Also removed the floor.
Normally I would put the rabbits out in the A-frame structure you see in the background but it is currently housing meat chickens.
The flock had to come over and inspect the new inhabitants.

I was going to remove my brooder from the run but ended up leaving it there. It works as an isolation cage (used it long term for a pullet with wry neck, and short term to get a hen with thin egg shells to eat her own calcium enriched mash). When it rains, I can open the door and the chickens can use it as rain shelter, since they prefer it to being inside the coop.

I'm all for repurposing things. I repurposed my garden dump cart that I attach behind the riding mower and turned that into my brooder. I simply made a 1/4" wire mesh cover out of 2x4's for the frame and raised the chicks in the dump cart brooder for about 8 weeks early this spring in my attached garage. When I moved the chicks out, the garden dump cart was put back into use for yard work. The 1/4 inch wire mesh cover with 2x4 frame is now used as a soil/compost sifter since it fits perfectly on top of the garden cart.

I also repurposed by wife's wire mesh garden wagon as a mobile compost/mulch pile inside the chicken run. I fill it up with grass clippings, kitchen scraps, garden weeds, etc... and let the girls rummage through the material and eat what they want. When the garden wagon gets full, I take it to the compost pile, dump everything out, and start over. Works good for me.

This picture is from the first days I was trying out this idea. Since then, the girls are used to getting up to the pile to scratch through the material, so I now have all the sides on the wagon up. It takes me about 2 weeks to fill up the wagon as I just add a bit of fresh grass clippings every few days. When the wagon gets full, I just dump it into the garden compost pile and start over.

If we need the wagon for the garden, then it easy to move and dump it. But most of the time the wagon was left unused, so this repurposing has worked out great.

Old hard storage bin, turned over with a hole cut in it for a guinea hide out.
Small, spare, covered litter box converted into a nest box.
Small, plastic dog house converted into a nest box.
Small, old coop that isn't predator proof (free from neighbor), placed inside our 12 x 20 run for various uses, such as an isolation coop, a place to seek shelter, as it has a roof, a place to hide and a place to dust bathe (set up in an old tire, inside the coop to keep it dry). Similar to above post.
Pallets in the run to provide shade, hiding places and for climbing.

I re-purpose as must as I possibly can.
